Tinney Residence

The Tinneys wanted a home that held surprises and angles. He wanted a house that had interior volume, but looked like it had been there for a hundred years. We had sailed off-shore with the client in the past, suggested the use of curves as well as angles to give the appearance of the inside of a boat in areas of the house. The resulting house is a safe harbor for a family that loves the life, and understands the history of, coastal living in this small southern town. From curved exterior brackets to beadboard paneling with built-in berths, their house on a tidal creek is filled with echoes of the sea and the wooden sailing ships that once plied the Carolina trade routes.
